The program
The LIFE programme is the European Union's instrument for financing projects in the fields of environment, climate and clean energy. For the period 2021–2027, LIFE is divided into two strands and four sub-programmes:
- Environment: Nature and biodiversity; Circular economy and quality of life
- Climate Action: Climate change mitigation and adaptation; Clean energy transition
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible candidates:
- Public bodies (municipalities, regions, environmental authorities)
- Private organizations (SMEs, companies, NGOs)
- Universities and research centers
- Consortia and partnerships between multiple entities
Financeable activities
The call finances:
- Demonstration and pilot projects
- Actions for the implementation of EU policies
- Studies, plans, tools and innovative models
- Awareness and training campaigns
- Environmental and climate governance actions
Budget and financing
The total budget for the 2025 calls is 596 million euros. The funds are managed directly by the European Commission and CINEA (Executive Agency for Climate, Environment and Infrastructure).
Financing limits:
- Standard projects (SAP): co-financing up to 60% of eligible costs
- Strategic projects (SNaP and SIP): co-financing up to 60%–75%, depending on the type of project and sub-programme
How to Apply
Proposals must be submitted online via the European Funding & Tenders Portal.
Deadline: 23 September 2025, 17:00 (Brussels)
Info day : on 24 and 25 June 2025 there will be the LIFE Info Day Italy 2025, an online information event organised by the LIFE National Contact Point (NCP) Team of MASE and aimed specifically at Italian proposers.
